Furniture Designer and Maker

Christopher Solar is a designer and maker of unique contemporary furniture. His primary medium is wood, although his designs may also incorporate diverse materials such as metal, stone, paper, and light. His pieces are generally made on commission. He lives and works in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Prior to his career as a furniture maker, Christopher earned a degree in Computer Engineering from University of Waterloo, and worked for several years as a software developer. During this period, he experimented with visual art techniques such as photography and block printing, in addition to woodworking. Furniture making gradually became Christopher's main creative outlet, and he eventually left the world of software development to focus on designing and making furniture full-time.
Christopher's technical background continues to inform his current work, both in the precision of its execution, and in a design process that makes extensive use of computer-based modeling tools. His work combines these modern techniques with time-honoured methods of furniture construction, producing pieces that are thoroughly contemporary yet built to uncompromising standards of quality.
Christopher's work is found in residences across Canada.
