Pinea Pendants

A set of five hanging pendants made from reclaimed copper from the roof of Canada’s Parliament buildings. These pendants were designed to hang down in a cluster over an open stairwell in one of Canada’s embassies.

Each pendant is formed from 36 scales of copper folded and riveted together to form a shape meant to evoke a pine cone, a nod to the stone pine (pinus pinea) trees that are common in the area around the embassy. The top side of each scale is the un-altered patina that developed in the decades the copper spent exposed on the Parliament roof. The undersides have been sanded and polished to reveal bright copper. The polished metal will be visible from below, and will reflect light from a lamp element that will be mounted in the centre of each pendant during installation.

Overall diameters varying from 20” to 27”.
